The septuagenarian never forgets no he never forgets his feathered friends when he goes for a swim

rolling onto the old wharf the septuagenarian – first thing – pulls from his trunk a mesh bag to cast seeds

high in the kiawe trees on a cliff above the surf sits the hungry flock chirping wildly

a noisy splash sends them descending raucously to the banquet strewn out before them

the septuagenarian loves the way he feels in the water his veteran aches and pains soothed his muscles and joints relaxed

but what he loves even more is the moment when a finch, a myna, a dove or sparrow stops feasting to encircle him

flying low and close making another round above his head to say thank you thank you kindly my friend.
