Hey, so I read your art dump post and your work was amazing!
One question I have though is when you mentioned in the Winter section how you conceptualized her in 2013 following the Maidens. But in the v3 RWBY dvd commentary they said Monty thought of the Maidens between V2 and V3. V2 didn't release until 2014
So did you have first scoop at the Maiden idea from Monty?
Thank you, it was truly an experience to be a part of at the time.
I'm not sure what has been said regarding the Maidens as I have not been able to look at anything beyond Volume 2. What I can say in full confidence is that when Monty asked me what sort of theme or inspiration I would use if I had the opportunity to write my own story, I said, Wuxing Philosophy.
Wuxing is derived in Chinese Philosophy as the balance between all things, both positive and negative. I was first exposed to it during the end of Digimon's Season 1 with the introduction of Azulongmon when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I had the internet, so I started doing some research haha. I've loved the concept ever since and heavily reference it in a lot of things.
They delve into variations and subsects of the foundation, of which one could even find in the world of Avatar (benders, not blue people.) These are more commonly referred to as the Compass Spirits, focusing more on Cardinal Directions, magnetism and their relationship with everything else.
East: The Azure Dragon (Spring equinox)—Niao (Bird 鳥), α Scorpionis South: The Vermilion Bird (Summer solstice)—Huo (Fire 火), α Hydrae West: The White Tiger (Autumn equinox)—Mǎo (Hair 毛), η Tauri (the Pleiades) North: The Black Tortoise (Winter solstice)—Xū (Emptiness, Void 虛), α Aquarii, β Aquarii

Maybe its bold of me to assume, but I believe it's more than likely that Monty got the idea for the Maidens from me. I remember a certain someone looking less than pleased when I joined in the conversation about them one time. I stopped trying after that.
