RUMOUR ft LOHEN
fluff, f. reader, tw. mention of infidelity, slighty yan! lohen | it didn't go unnoticed to lohen that you no longer replied to his letters, and it didn't go unnoticed to you how he might not be the person you thought he was
꒰ can be read independently or as part 2 of FROM YOURS TRULY ꒱
the daylight filtered gently through your curtains and fell gracefully on your desk, where an envelope had had its seal slit, yet its content remained inside. near it, a few other envelopes laid completely untouched. all of them were addressed to you from the same person — vice captain of the fifth company of the knight of favonius.
you stayed lying on your bed. the rumour you heard plagued your mind.
"hasn't lohen's engagement to lord krüger's eldest daughter hold out longer this time? maybe he's finally looking into settling down, that battle junkie".
engagement? settling down? had you unknowingly gotten in between someone else's relationship? you knew the church would take this matter seriously if they find out. you've heard of a deaconess who drinks fiery level spicy drink for breakfast, whose healing power can also take down enemies triple her size. you didn't want to be the receiving end of her treatment should she's sent out to handle your case.
so you refrained yourself from engaged with the vice captain any further. he'll get the message and move on in time, or so you'd hoped for.
two knocks, and your maid appeared at your door, "miss, there's a knight at the door looking for you".
"tell him i'm occupied right now", you buried your face between two pillows, praying to barbatos to save you from sinful acts and a certain someone.
"doesn't seem like it to me, though". lohen poked his head between your maid and the door.
you sat up in panic immediately for being caught lying through your teeth and still in your nightgown at 10 in the morning, "what are you doing here?".
"you haven't reply my letters in a while. so i thought i'd come check if you're doing alright. oh! there are the letters. you did read them. hm.. some of them? i wonder why".
your maid had excused herself to prepare some tea, leaving the room awkwardly silent as lohen stared blankly at you while you took interest in your bedsheet.
"i heard of your engagement.."
he shrugged, "naturally. i'm a knight".
you considered if you can get away with murder. "you didn't think of telling me? what if the people find out i've been writing to a promised man?!".
"right back to you. you didn't think of asking me about my business personally?".
as the two of you looked accusingly at each other, another awkward silence followed.
finally, lohen sighed, "i was engaged, yes, arranged for me by either the church or knight of favonius and retracted too many times that i lost count. i only met my fiancées once or twice before the whole thing fell through. i guess the ladies of mondstadt just don't have the stomach to deal with me", he looked proud, as if his failing engagements were quite the achievement to be bragged about. "even the father of the latest one just informed me that a fontainian merchant had approached his daughter and they've agreed to be wedded immediately".
you're simply dumbfounded. "so, you're not promised to anyone?".
"nope! so do reply to my letters immediately. also, please pay attention to my feedback on the previous training models. they can use some adjustments", he chimed as he turned to leave but stopped and glanced back at you.
his lightless eyes crinkled with amusement. his voice dropped an octave when he spoke, "i expect your reply within the next fortnight before i return to nod-krai. i don't suppose you need to be engaged to me to write back this time? i'm not opposed to the idea, though".
lohen happily read your letter the day after the next all while he wondered what colour would suit you best for a wedding dress.
