🇷🇺 Another chapter in the history of instant messaging comes to a close as on August 20, 2024 VK announces the shutdown of Mail.ru Agent, following in the footsteps of ICQ. Both of these iconic messengers once defined how we communicated online, especially in the early 2000s.

📟 ICQ, launched in 1996, was the pioneer of instant messaging, developed by the Israeli company Mirabilis. With its distinctive “Uh-oh!” message alert, ICQ became the go-to platform for millions around the world, allowing people to connect in real-time long before social media took off. ICQ was later acquired by AOL in 1998, but as competition grew, its popularity faded. VK eventually took over ICQ, and despite various updates, the messenger couldn’t regain its former glory.

📧 Mail.ru Agent was Russia’s response to ICQ, launched in 2003 as an integrated messaging service. It quickly became popular, especially in the Russian-speaking world, offering not just instant messaging but also voice and video calls. Over time, however, the rise of more advanced messaging platforms led to a decline in its user base. Now, VK, the company that merged with Mail.ru Group, has decided to discontinue Mail.ru Agent, marking the end of an era.

Как я дебютирую в роли киберспортсмена

Буду участвовать в турнире по Warface (Синдикат Blitz League, в нем могут принять участие до 1024 команд) для тех, кто принял участие в специальном внутриигровом событии (доступ к нему стоил 300 рублей, и он уже окупился, осталось выжать из него последние соки), один парень с нашего клана решил собрать команду, и им нужен был ещё один игрок.

Я нахожусь во Вьетнаме и буду играть на одном из российских серверов, у меня будет задержка во время игры, то есть результаты моих действий будут медленнее доходить до сервера из-за таких расстояний между странами. Буду позже видеть соперников, и у них будет в этом преимущество, но и у меня должны быть свои.

По этой причине не хотел участвовать, и думал, что они найдут ещё кого-нибудь, только этими людьми оказались я и Серёга, но он уезжает на дачу в этот день, что весьма забавно, так как это не позволяет присоединиться к киберспортивному турниру, а мне мешает пинг (то, как скоро передается сигнал от моего компьютера — клиента до сервера), так как наверно буду подводить команду, тем не менее мне интересно принять участие.

А вчера я перестрелял вражескую команду в первом раунде сразу после разговора и даже немного воодушевился, хотя это не лучшая моя игра, а временами все оканчивается гораздо печальней. :D Но все же вот как это было.

С очень малой вероятностью будет кто-то ещё участвовать в этом турнире, кто играет с такой задержкой и находится так далеко от СНГ, надеюсь на это нет запрета.

Хотя я встречал в игре женщину, которая живет в США (вот там задержка должна быть больше моей), и двух мужчин, которые живут в Германии (но по расстоянию до сервера и скорости отправки и получения сигнала это почти то же, что находиться в Казахстане).
