Last Saturday, September 7th, I married my best friend. Our wedding was a reflection of our personality, our passion for music and art, and our love for one another. 1 year ago, I finally acted on a decision I made in my mind long ago. I didn't have the cash to buy the ring I wanted to get her but thank God for 12 months interest-free credit cards 🤣 this pic was taken on our 5-year "dating anniversary" dinner, just moments after LeOndra made the greatest decision of her life 😂 everything was perfect and both of our families were able to witness the occasion. It's crazy as I've been reflecting on our history over the past week. The peaks and valleys of our relationship, the growth we've seen over the years, set backs we've stumbled upon... life! 2 years ago, LeOndra and I hit up 🌴Coachella🎡 for the first time. For anyone who doesn't know, Coachella is a 3-day event that's one of the biggest music festivals in the world, with a ton of large-scale contemporary art on display. As soon as we walked in, we felt right at home. Loud music, fashionable people, all kinds of food... we were truly in our element 😂 We both have eclectic tastes in music. Hip-hop, R&B, House, Electronic, Alternative, Reggae we listen to it all. We had been to many concerts and smaller music festivals prior but Coachella was a whole 'nother experience. We had so much fun that we've been going every year since then, with our tickets for next year already purchased. 3 years ago, I experienced the worst year of my life. My relationship with LeOndra had grown to be quite toxic, eventually leading us to break up without any intention of getting back together. For the majority of that year, we were actually single 😳🤷🏽‍♂️ but during this time off, we focused on working on ourselves. We had personal issues to deal with before we could love on others. By the grace of God, we reconnected later in the year, easing our way back into a relationship. The picture posted is of us at a Halloween party that year, dressed as Superman and Superwoman in our own unique way LOL! We had last minute "costumes" 🤦🏽‍♂️ Unfortunately, less than 2 weeks later, my world would ultimately come crashing down, changing my life forever. My second youngest sister, Sahara Dena Mailo, would go on to be called to Heaven. The last time I would see her would be 2 days after this picture, when I took her and my other siblings trick-or-treating. Halloween was one of Sahara's most favorite holidays. I'm truly grateful for LeOndra's presence around me and my family as we dealt with my sister's untimely passing, from the long nights/sleepovers at the hospital to the funeral arrangements and following family get-togethers that felt empty. She was with us every step of the way during this process, something we still go through to this very day. 4 years ago, we spent one of the most memorable Christmas holidays with each other. We met up at my parents' house to exchange our gifts to one another. My gifts to her were placed in several bags. LeOndra, however, with her creative self, built a 3-layered snowman out of 3 boxes, each containing her gifts to me! It's impossible to beat this girl at gift-giving, I swear! After our time with my family, we ended the night at her parents' house. This Christmas turned out to be the most cherished Christmas I've ever had, as it would eventually be the last one we'd have with Sahara. 5 years ago, LeOndra set up one of the best birthdays I've ever had. She made a scavenger hunt that took me all over Phoenix. It started with random clues at my parents' house, which led me to having breakfast with my dad at Denny's. The next set of clues led me to a lunch date with my mom, during her lunch break. After lunch, the clues directed me to a parking lot by Castles N Coasters, where her mom met up with me to give me a box of my favorite candies and snacks. From there, the clues took me to the Mountainside Fitness gym by my parents' house. I found my best friends already waiting there for me and we were all setup to get a workout in. After the gym, I was directed to meet up at Anthem Park, where I FINALLY got to see LeOndra. We had a little meal in the park and she gave me more gifts. After we ate, we headed to my parents' house. To my surprise, my friends were already there, along with my cousin and her husband. The rest of the house was decorated for my 24th birthday. My dad threw down in the kitchen (as usual), we cut cake, and celebrated my day. At the end of the night, LeOndra and I took a pic together to cap off the most thoughtful birthday I've ever had. From morning to night, she had me spend time with each of my loved ones. She coordinated everything with my family, her family, and my friends.
