The way Tony fans are caught up in assigning blame to Wanda for Ultron gets funnier when you think about how much of of a disservice it does to Tony's character/canon. Like...Tony and Bruce were being rational and acting on a preexisting plan. The only risky thing they did was choose to run tests on the scepter. The movie goes ridiculously out of its way to frame the whole scenario as an accident; Ultron activates after they abandoned the project. (pt 1)

(pt 2). The point of all this being: Did Wanda mind control Tony into making a small adjustment to a preexisting plan? Did she mind control Tony into leaving the room when the simulations were unsuccessful? (That's A+ mind control, a victim who can leave before their assignment is finished) Did she mind control Tony into conceiving Ultron months before they met? Did she mind control Bruce into playing a near equal role in Ultron's creation? How about no.

Sorry for the spam. I just *really* dislike this argument. It manages to take a dump all over both Wanda (a very interesting character) and Tony, the character they're supposedly defending.
Hey its ok to spam when its a rant about the illogic of some people’s arguments!
And yeah, it is a massive disservice to Tony’s character. Like part of his whole thing is his independence and his refusal to listen to authority figures - even without Wanda’s presence there’s no reason he might not have scanned the Sceptre on his own, and given the time limit before Thor would take it to Asgard there’s plenty of reasons that he’d be reckless in trying to use it before the time limit ran out.
Ignoring that and insisting on blaming every and all part of it on Wanda is just... stupid, reckless, illogical, foolish and very often based on misogyny.
Because dontchaknow, Tony can do No Wrong Ever. Ignore the fact that he was an active part of American Imperialism for years and only stopped when he was personally affected. Ignore the fact that he sold weapons because he feels bad about that and he stopped.
Ignoring, of course, that Wanda also looked at what she was causing and what Ultron planned and went NOPE. But obviously you can still blame her for everything but to blame Tony is Wrong and Awful.
Fuck Tony Stans with a halberd, honestly. I’d find Tony somewhat interesting if not for their insistence that he’s innocent of all wrongs ever.

Summary: (from AO3) Tony Stark isn’t the only genius on the ground.
Reviewer’s Name: @mailorderfictionalcharacter
Genius is an alternate universe story about Maya Hansen (and SHIELD and Tony Stark). The first divergence is that instead of Maya being a past love interest, she is temporarily Tony Stark’s younger mentee. This story has very little to do with the plot of IM3 and everything to do with Maya Hansen. We watch her slow descent into moral ambiguity. She’s the villain you love and the not-quite villain. In the background we have a fascinating, subtle critique of what SHIELD is. Tony Stark’s characterization is suitably contradictory, as we see incredible generosity clash with seeming self-absorption.
Even better, the author’s writing style is an absolute treat in itself. They use one of the most effective non-linear storytelling styles I have seen, including conventional published writing. Each story is like a puzzle where the information trickles out slowly, but the characterization and descriptive details are so gorgeous that there is very little chance of getting bored or forgetting details.
I would recommend this fic for absolutely everyone, but especially for fans of Maya Hansen from the Extremis/Director of SHIELD arcs. (Note: no comics knowledge necessary). As a comics fan, it was a treat to see an AU where Maya was the protagonist, one where her manipulations were more successful, and to see the Tony Stark and Maya Hansen moral parallels in a different context.

ah, my hero, my avenging knight in golden armour
*armor. It's late. I'm sorry. My spelling brain is temporarily deactivated.
armour is 125% the Correct way to spell that and don’t let anyone tell you differently,
Hogwarts House Ask Meme: Quark, Philippa Georgiou, Kasidy Yates, Jessica Jones. (or whatever combination thereof actually interests you).
oohhh goodness.
with Quark, I’m very attached to the thought that he’s a Hufflepuff who wants to be a Slytherin. Based on these two posts (1, 2), plus here’s some other posts of me musing about this (x, x, x, x).
Philippa Georgiou… hmmm… I WISH we had more data points to go off of, but I’m leaning towards Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Her little nuggets of wisdom strike me as Ravenclaw, and I get the sense that curiosity for exploration drives her command. However, her quiet willingness to self-sacrifice, patience in drawing that logo in the sand, and I think an overall sense of justice and radical way of accepting of people on their own terms w/o judgement all point to Hufflepuff also….
This is the most telling quote of hers: “I have always tried to show you by example. The best way to know yourself is to know others. You are curious, an explorer. So I am leaving you my most beloved possession, handed down through my family for centuries. My hope is that you will use it to continue to investigate the mysteries of the universe, both inside and out.And keep your eyes and heart open.” I’m still undecided about which house this confirms, but it’s very indicative of both without more to go on.
Kasidy Yates, I’m thinking Slytherin? She’s a go-getter, driven for what she wants, and savvy in achieving this. Her most interesting plot was when she roped into dealing business with the Maquis, despite her boyfriend being a Starfleet captain, and in an ideal world this plot would have been fleshed out more.
Jessica Jones, oh goodness………… See, she seems like she wants to be a Slytherin, but then acts like a Gryffindor or Hufflepuff w/ heroics when things get real…. but she IS a private investigator by trade. She wants to know people’s business and get to the bottom of things – this is driven by her buried sense of justice and heroism, sure, but it’s also because at heart I think she’s actually rather nosy, as much as she tries to deny that she cares about anything. She wants to know the truth about people, so yeah I’m sticking with Ravenclaw.

Also - why the lack of fix-it fanfic for this monumental problem?
YEAH WHAT THE FUCK
For the borgjaneway st ask meme: 1 (fave 3 female characters), 2, (fave three male characters), 5 (episode plot you wish they handled differently), 7 (dream crew), and 12 (TOP three NOTPs). Or some of those if that's too much.
1. Top 3 favorite female characters?
Uhura, Crusher, Torres
2. Top 3 favorite male characters?
Picard, Dr. McCoy, Dr. Bashir
5. Episode plot you wish they had handled differently?
tbh the more I watch Voyager the more answers I have to this one? I’m gonna go with not taking one of the many opportunities they’ve had to get back home because the writers can’t figure out Janeway’s morals as a general plot point that needs to get fixed.
7. Who would make up your crew dream team?
You’ve now given me an option to create a perfect dream team all female crew and I’m gonna do it: Capt. Janeway, Dr. Crusher, Chief Torres, Science Officer Dax, Security Chief Yar, Tactical Officer Kira, Nurse Chapel, First Officer/Comm Officer Uhura, throw in Yeoman Rand, Saavik, T’Pol and Sato (though I’ve not seen much of ENT), Seven of Nine but I haven’t gotten to her yet, Guinan and Troi but neither of them are bridge crew.
12. Top 3 NOTPs?
Kira/Dukat or Damar or any of the creepy men around her including Odo; Garak/Ziyal was the most uncomfortable and super forced to make sure we all realized that Garak was into ladies even though any time they kissed Garak looked entirely bemused; Worf and Troi was also weird and I’ll give that whole debacle a hard pass
