I recently heard someone saying that what defines a good soundtrack is how well it fits to the scene we're watching on screen; the more fitting, the more the soundtrack fulfills its purpose. The goal of every film/TV score composer should be to create the perfect soundtrack for a scene. To make it so fitting to it that no one could ever imagine literally anything else playing at the background instead of it.
If we extend that to main themes, I would say the Succession Main Theme is one of the best ones to ever exist in the history of television, if not outright the best. (plus, it's really just an incredible on its own - it was literally part of what drew me in to watch the show in the first place).
And let me tell you this - I usually very much dislike main titles themes and the fact that they exist. I watch them at the first episode and then always skip them. Succession has got to be the only show I've ever watched that I've never skipped the main titles - not even once.
Nicholas Britell created something truly unique with this one.
