"It's just me." Petra giggled softly, holding Tessa close to her, but made sure to be gentle.
"It is certainly more boring." Petra smiled gently, "and much quieter." She looked at Tessa, "How are you feeling? The little one isn't giving you much trouble is it?"
A deck of cards is left for Baribus. The deck is facing down. Four cards are face up; the two black aces, two black 8s. A fifth card, the 8 of diamonds is face down.
Baribus was never a cards man. Never a gambling man. Always business or hunting. But he has a feeling the cards hold some significance to them. 2 black aces? 2 black 8s and a mysterious fifth card. Curiously, the videre reached down and turned over the 5'th card.
8 of diamonds.
Frowning with confusion, Baribus huffed and scooped the cards to slide back into the mysterious deck. He wasn't sure what the five cards meant but he didn't trust it. That old salt side of him was convinced it was an omen of bad luck, while his more rational videre mind thought of it as nothing but superstitious nonsense.
But early years on the seas bore its teeth at the cards, still unsure of whether this curious array of cards was a bad omen or not.
I just love the idea that Hunter is akin to a prince that has never been allowed to leave the castle (kind of like Jasmine in Aladdin) except on missions and doesn’t understand basic teen stuff. He doesn’t know what a piggyback ride or ice-scream is. He doesn’t understand how school works or social interaction with other teens. And then here comes Edric (his Aladdin). This cute dumb boy with personal space issues just comes out of nowhere and basically starts teaching him how to be a regular teenager and these goobers end up falling for each other and I’m dying

“You are right,” he yawned, a nod following his words. What she said rang true in his mind, sleep was certainly something Alastair needed. “Sleep is not exactly --- something that I actively get,” he added in retort to her words. Truth rang in Alastair’s words as his eyes looked to her.

Adelha gave the words of the poem in her Irish eloquence. Speaking only to her kitten who was currently sitting in her lap. The little Aqua listening to her human creature give strange sounds for Aqua to give a mew back. So Adelha gave a sad chuckle to pet the kitten. Soft purrs answering gentle pets. Aqua enjoying the attention as Adelha spoke again. Only this time the poem was in English. The words haunted and sad.
“Shunning the field broken by Wave. The shadowed girl whispers, ‘Surely, I will return.’ Alas, the truth unbeknownst. Awaiting her at journey’s end; Eternal mourning for her land.”
Adelha cast her gaze from Aqua to the sights beyond her window. The sky cloudy with promise of a storm rumbling. So Adelha gave a long sigh at the sky. Many thoughts and feeling collecting inside, just like the storm clouds overhead.
so, i think my new headcanon for a mish-mash, catch-all version of ivy is this:
pamela isley was born to wealthy, distant parents in the 1930s. she lived a very sheltered, very controlled existence, groomed to be a Perfect Lady and Wife until she dared to be different and followed her own academic and independent dreams. she went to college in the 1950s and was largely shunned for being a woman in academia, but her mind was sharp enough to be begrudgingly recognized by her peers and superiors. she was socially awkward and almost always out of place, never wanting to follow the social norms and mores ascribed to women at the time, but unsure of how to be herself without being rejected.
this made her the perfect target for jason woodrue. she wanted his validation. he was brilliant and accomplished, and he paid her real attention. he acknowledged her mind and her brilliance. and by the time she earned her doctor of science in botany in the mid-60s, he had her eating out of the palm of his hand. she agreed to his experiments willingly the first time, letting him inject her with all manner of chemical and home-brewed toxin.
over the course of his experiments, she died twice. she spent four weeks in a coma and six months in the hospital. her parents never came to visit her. the experiments fundamentally changed her. but she was wild, raw, hurt and betrayed. she lashed out for years after leaving the hospital, blaming men for the manipulations of her mentor and humankind for its wreckage of the planet. when she confronted her parents about their distance, she ended up killing them.
the sexpot vamp routine is an act-- though second-nature at this point. she uses what men expect of her against them. it’s empowering and vengeful. the changes to her genetics have completely altered her into something not quite human and not quite plant. she ages slowly-- oh so very slowly. much like a tree. that’s why she still appears as old as she was when jason experimented on her decades ago, even though she is -- in reality -- almost 80 years old.
over the years her connection to the earth grew. her control strengthened. and her own genius in her field sees her continuing to experiment now, trying to find new ways to avenge the earth for its mistreatment by humans.
