So many people at my school only wanna watch mainstream anime like SAO, SNK, Tokyo Ghoul, Black Butler, and Naruto. Now don't get me wrong everyone is free to watch whatever they want but DO NOT, sit there and tell me those are the best shows out there when you haven't even explored the world of anime. Get yourself some coffee or tea, sit down, and watch Code Geass, Bungou Stray Dogs, Zankyou no Terror, Kiznaiver, 91 Days, Monster, fucking hell even Blue Exorcist. And THEN tell me if those mainstream ones are still 'the best anime out there' Also not saying ANY of these animes or bad or that they shouldn't be you're favorite because almost all those series our near and dear to my heart but just know that you haven't seen everything just because you've watched the mainstream ones
Has anyone noticed how in mainstream anime, character design...has become a personality trait?
Mainstream anime and me
Me: well... I don't go for mainstream animes that much...
Other: *Gasp* you mean u don't like Pokemon?
Me: no I love Pokemon and sailor moon and some other things but I only watched them when I was a kid.
Other: ...
Me: but now I do watch the new sailor moon and fairy tail and soul eater and AOT and SAO. They are kind of mainstream right?
Other: what about Bleach and Naruto?
Me: to long to watch so I never-
Other: *walks away*
Me: but I am still an otaku right?! Hey! Come back! Well excuse me for being different!!!
Need to figure out what mainstream anime to watch? Well, this should help. I probably left out a few mainstreamy amines, if I did let me know. I hope someone other than me gets a use out of this!
There are anime that everyone loves that I will just never watch for one reason or another and it makes me feel isolated but oh well.
So... There are some Good things and Bad things about Naruto...
Good note: Now I can read all the chapters I want and cry my soul out... Plus FF opportunities, like an after story or something
Bad note: I will have no more tears to shed at ANY of this as my heart slowly stops to all the fans freaking out over the countless pictures...
Today, dear world, is an emotional day for us all.... One Mainstream has ended, yet Three more remain... RIP Naruto!
Mainstream Monday
(Sorry I haven’t posted anything in the last week. I’ve been pretty busy.)
There are many “mainstream” anime out there. For this review, I will only list a few that 1.) I have seen and 2.) I have a large number of episodes (100<# or so). I may do another mainstream Monday sometime in the future.
“Bleach”
Openings 1-15(not the best quality unfortunately) –http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvoK3sSr1w0
I like most of these but especially 1-5, 8, 12-13, and 15
Bleach used to be one the 3 shows usually nicknamed by the anime community, “The Big Three,” at least until it ended (I’m not entirely sure right now). The story follows a guy (Ichigo) who has been able to see the souls of the dead for most of his life. One night, he is visited by a strange girl (Rukia) who calls herself a soul reaper- souls that protect a place known as the soul society and save wandering souls from or from becoming “hollows”- monsters that devour other souls. A hollow appears and nearly kills Rukia. She offers to give Ichigo some of her power in order to stop the hollow. He agrees, and his soul temporarily splits from his body and he becomes a “substitute” soul reaper. The show is all about characters fighting, getting stronger, and using crazy powers (pretty common in these shows). If that sounds cool, I say at least check the show out. It’s roughly 360 episodes, so if you like it you will have plenty to watch.
“Inuyasha”
Endings-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvN9mr3sxMM
My favorites are 1,2,5, and 7
This one follows a girl who is a reincarnation of an ancient priestess that travels back in time to medieval Japan and with the help of her friends, one being a hot-headed, white-haired, half man, half dog demon (Inuyasha), fights to gather the shards of a shattered sacred jewel before an evil demon can get them. This show has a lot of fighting as well along with plenty of humorous moments. It’s about 200 episodes with the inclusion of “Inuyasha Final Act” and quite good. It was the second anime that I would consider mainstream that I watched.
And last but not least ………………………………………………………
“Dragonball Z”
English opening-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdFy2lWc3lo
You have been living under a rock the last couple of decades if you have never heard of this behemoth. This show takes fighting to the next level. If you want characters so strong that they could destroy a planet with one energy blast, stop reading this review and go watch Dragonball Z now! This show picks up where the show Dragonball left off. Dragonball’s fights were on a smaller scale and it had more dirty old man jokes for some reason (not that big of a deal), but it was still a very enjoyable show and a great way to learn about some of the characters that are in DBZ. There is also Dragonball GT which takes place after DBZ, however most people don’t like GT that much since it lowers the scale back down and has less interesting villains (those are my reasons at least). With over 100 episodes in Dragonball, over 250 in DBZ , the GT season, and probably 10 or more movies, one of which just came out and made it in theaters for a few days, the Dragonball anime series is one of the largest and most popular around. Sometimes it is annoying to spend 10 episodes straight watching the characters scream and power up, but you still love it =] ) If I had to give this show a number rating, it would obviously be over 9000! (if you watch the show you will get the reference/joke).
As a fair warning, don’t expect deep stories and crazy plot twists with these shows. Most people would probably consider them mindless fun, but fun nonetheless.
