The landmark minaret at the end of the main yard The tower of the Grande Mosquee of Tancho in Foumban and its green dome are landmarks in the former royal capital. Situated a short walk from the royal palace and museum, it is easily accessible when visiting this kingdom in the hills. The mosque has probably been located on this spot since the foundation of the city 600 years ago. The earliest kings, mfons, had a rank like a sultan in islam. During its time as the Bamum kingdom, other religions were allowed, including christianity during the time as a colony in the German Empire.
