USERNAME APPRECIATION POST, SEND IT TO PEOPLE WHOSE USERNAMES YOU THINK ARE COOL 💗🫶

AHHHHH thank you so much! this is such a nice compliment and actually gives me an opportunity to drop some unsolicited lore about myself/my username.

I’m deeply inspired by words (obviously) & monologues, especially in other languages. I watch a lot of TV in different languages and of my favorite things to do is hyperfixate on learning these absolutely gorgeous monologues that deeply touch me — plenty in English too.

My username comes from a monologue by French writer Alfred De Musset & goes:

On est souvent trompé en amour, souvent blessé et souvent malheureux ; mais on aime, et quand on est sur le bord de sa tombe, on se retourne pour regarder en arrière ; et on se dit : "J'ai souffert souvent, je me suis trompé quelquefois, mais j'ai aimé.

Which translates to:

We are often deceived in love, often hurt and often unhappy; but we love, and when we are on the edge of our grave, we turn around to look back; and we say to ourselves: “I have often suffered, I have made mistakes sometimes, but I have loved.

“mais on aime” translates to “but we love” and I like it and it was honestly just the first thing that came to mind when I was creating this blog!

And I would love to say that I’m just that good that I came across this lovely slice of language somewhere profound but no. It was just being referenced in a context I don’t even remember in a brainrot Netflix original 😵‍💫

But I have it memorized to this day! Despite not speaking a word of French!

I just wanted to shoot you a message to say I would literally wait until my hair is gray for viciousness & intelligence, and ideally will be waiting with gray hair for updates because I genuinely hope you never stop writing this story. The way you develop the characters, their backgrounds and idiosyncrasies. The balance that you create in their bond and the way you develop the idea of a triad bond, and the lore of mating bonds in general. The care that you treat each character with. It’s beyond gorgeous and each word feels so perfectly chosen and placed to evoke the sense of awe and wonder their story invites. Not to mention you diverge from canon while somehow also fitting perfectly into the canon timeline?

It’s like you’ve opened up an entire world within ACOTAR and I can’t imagine the characters any other way because you’ve captured their essence so perfectly. All of the love and kudos and respect. I will be patiently waiting and rooting for you to update, and absolutely DEVOURING everything else you write in the meantime ❤️

(Jokes aside, thank you so much. This is so kind of you and I'm so touched you like it so much. I wrote most of V&I while I was in the last few months of grad school, so it really feels like a fever dream and I'm not quite sure how it happened, but I'm so happy that it found its niche in the fandom. I also spend a lot of time agonizing over making sure my canon divergences are just right - and if you ever notice that I edited something in an old chapter to adjust my timeline to fit canon, no you didn't.)
