A backhanded story of thanks
You are the only one in the entire world that has e right to determine who you are as a person, and what is going to effect the way you live your life. Unfortunately, we don't always remember this, and we leave the decision making up to someone who wants to see you in pain. We all have someone like this in our life, be it a friend, a teacher, people from school, or even a family member.
I have a sister who is 3 years older than I am. She is 20, I am 17. As children we were always very close, spending every moment possible with each other. We were best friends, and I looked up to her because she meant the world to me.
By the time she was about 12, and I 9, everything began to change. She no longer acted like the sister I had always known. She no longer wanted to play with me, and it constantly seemed like she did not want me around. We began drifting apart, but we were still quite close. We were just no longer best friends.
Our relationship continued to go down hill. Because of our age difference, we have always been in different stages of life. Different stages of learning and figuring out how the world works. I feel that my sister never realized this, and was always irritated by my lack of understanding of her life. To this day, I believe that is why we are where we are.
When she left for a college 4 hours away, I was not sad. I was the happiest I had been in a very long time. By this point in our relationship, things were not good. She lacked the open mindedness needed to understand me as a person. We have grown to have very different senses of humor. We like different music. We have completely different styles. We are complete polar opposites.
Starting high school made me grow up a lot and mature. We were finally around the same place in our lives where we could understand what the other is going through. When she came home from college for holidays, nothing had changed. But now, there was someone that I had to share her with, her new boyfriend. I was fine with him being around. I like him quite a lot. But when I was trying to repair our relationship, she seemed to only be interested in spending time with him. No one seemed to understand why I was hurt that she didn't seem willing to fix things. This hurt me a lot, but I still tried.
In December, she dropped out of college, and moved back home, and soon began nursing school. She later got engaged to her boyfriend. This only caused more tension between the two of us. She believes that just because I have a different opinion from her, I do not support her relationship.
She also resents me because I found out things about her that she didn't want me to know, and I confronted her about them. She thinks that this is me trying to control her life, not that I care about her or anything.
I spoke with my mother about this and she told me that the reason my sister is so hostile toward me is because she is jealous. Unlike her, I am very involved in school, and am making the most of my high school experience. I am living the life that she never did, which is no excuse.
I cut my sister some slack for it.
Recently things between the to of us have been very good. Like we were little girls again. Scrolling through twitter one day I found an anon account dedicated to people with red hair. Being a redhead, I decided to check It out. Going through the profile, I found that it was actually my sister's account. Se had very inappropriate content on it, which she didn't like me knowing about. This angered her very much, and we argued about it. She said very hurtful things to me. She then began bashing me on her twitter, and telling lies about me. She also said very hurtful things about me, which she knows are very sensitive subjects for me.
She then began doing these things in real life.
I have always see my sister as someone I disliked so much, that I could even say that I hate her. But in my resent quest to ban all negativity from my life, I have come to realize that having her in my life has been a very good thing. With out her, I wouldn't know how to be who I am today. I wouldn't know about maturity, though she insists I lack it. I wouldn't know how to live life to the fullest. And I wouldn't know how to be happy. She has gone forth in the world, and made many mistakes. We all make mistakes, but she has made some for me. I am a better person, because she showed me who I never want to become.
If you have someone in your life constantly tearing you doing, stop, breathe and realize that they are making you better, because they are showing you who you refuse to become.
All for now my lovelies!
Don't forget to be majestic!
