'She stopped midway, interrupted by the sound of windows being thrown open from above. A rich laugh rang through the waking street, followed by a bolstering voice exclaiming for the world to hear “Good morning, Dulciana!”
Evelyn, urged out to the yard by the proud bright eyed Rem, looked up to find Nat with a sloppy grin peering down with half his body out the window.
“Say hello to Evelyn, the most stunning woman in all of the kingdoms!”
His blue eyes winked at her, slightly hidden by his messy dirty blonde ringlets. Evelyn, with her face already as red as her brown skin could get, shouted back up at him. “You numbskull! Evelyn inched her way back to the boy, taking ahold of his arms, as if her tiny body was going to help him get up at any point in time. “You’re funny!” she giggled, watching him smooth back the wet mass of light brown hair that hung in front of his dark face.
“Glad to know I can make you laugh,” he grinned mischievously. “I was scared I was losing my touch.” Darcius Blythe held tightly to the little hand that was clasped into his, and turned back towards the shore, where Evelyn’s eldest brother was busy talking to a soldier. Evelyn peeked around her friend to get a glance as well.
“Think he’ll stay here?” Darcius heard Evelyn whisper quietly. He winced a little, watching as the prince’s face turned darker as he argued with the soldier that stood in front of him.
