“Mana...”
Continued from Here
He watched her sit and drew his knees up. Much more guarded than his usual posture. “I am....” He was a terrible liar, he knew this. “Thank you, for being here. But I do not know how you could help. I just... Have my own demons to work out. To cage down. I cannot let my emotions get the better of me.”
It was a mantra to him.
Stay in control.
Mana slowly approaches the other with a tiny smile, worried for her friend.
“Hey, Maha… are you alright? Do you want some company?” / @majutsu-shi
He inhaled, surprised to hear a voice. "O-oh... Ah... Mana," he cleared his throat and tried to look like he wasn't a hair away from spiraling. "I am just... Working through some things." He tried to manage a smile, even a small one.
"H-How are you?"
@majutsu-shi encourages: ❝ you can do this on your own. i believe in you. ❞
what you want to hear || {always accepting!}
The words make her want to cry; though not because the encouragement is a rarity, especially from her master, but because it’s from him -- from her best friend who sacrificed himself for the Pharaoh. She wants to believe Mahad’s words -- wants to listen to the spirit, but the grief in her heart is too heavy to allow it.
The whispers she’s used to catching in the hallways when others think the eccentric girl isn’t around to hear them say she’s a disaster and a burden stopped fazing her long ago, but now that she’s been catching people comment on how it was such a pity that she was her master’s legacy -- as if by simply continuing to live while he had passed so valiantly, Mana was making him out to be a failure.
Fingers grip her wand tighter and a lump begins to form in her throat. She wants to believe Mahad’s words -- he’s never lied to her before -- but good are the words of a ghost? What good are his words if he isn’t actually there to help her when she fails again? Then only reason that she didn’t perish during the war was everyone trying to keep her away from the battle.
The tears start to come as she shuts her eyes tightly, her white-knuckle grip on her staff easing enough to let it clatter to the tile beneath her feet.
“Don’t lie to me!” She snaps, words being choked out through a tight throat. Once she finally spoke, the flood of emotions broke through.
“You’ve always said I can do these things, but I can’t! Even with your help, I couldn’t do anything right -- it’s just a miracle I was able to summon my own Ka!” A hiccup, and her vision blurs with tears; she tries desperately to blink them away, not wanting the apparition of Mahad -- or rather, the Dark Magician -- to leave out of fear she’ll never see him again if he does.
“Is this just punishment for not being as serious with my lessons as I should’ve been?! You’re dead!” The words come out of her mouth and she collapses to her knees, sobbing. She’s not had the chance to grieve him -- to grieve any of her friends, and on top of taking Mahad’s place as a priest and the new bearer of the Millennium Ring, the weight is crushing her.
“Are you just trying to torment me now?! Just be honest about it and tell me I’m a failure like everyone says; just stop lying to me, Mahad! I can’t do this on my own, and you know it! I-- I can’t...”
@majutsu-shi || {here}
“You know it isn’t any trouble to me, Mahad.” She shoos the sorcerer’s hands away when he asks for her help, displeased with how he handled his own injuries. The priestess undoes the wrapping on his arm in order to reclean the wound and properly wrap it. “I don’t understand why you tried to do it yourself in the first place,” she scolds softly, not looking her friend in the eyes.
Isis then exhales a soft sigh when she starts picking rock and other debris from the gash on his back, her movements as gentle as possible; she can’t even take the rag to wash the blood off his skin and properly clean the wound yet.
“How is Mana doing?” The sleeping apprentice had not escaped her gaze, and while no injuries are visible from where the priestess stands, it does nothing to ease her concern for the young woman.
“How do you do, young master?” [majutsu-shi]
He jumped when he heard the voice and turned to see a face he had not seen in a very long time. “O-oh...Hi.” He blinked. “Ah, I’m doing alright, how are you?” He cleared his throat, trying to compose himself.
“And you don’t have to call me ‘master’, Yugi is just fine.” He smiled gently.
