Make It March - March 22 - Flitting Songs
Songs fill my head like butterflies, landing and fanning their sparkling wings full of sounds resonating, and chords chiming bright and the pauses and phrases that link and repeat. The song can get deeper, the longer I “look” adding layers and rhythms and styles all changing— but startled it leaves with a lightness I envy. I can’t call it back, only wait for the next.

Make It March - March 6 - What Watches?
Windows open out, but also open in—
What looks in at you, in the day, when the light dapples your face and your eyes are fixed on moving lights? What sees your wrinkled forehead as you think, as you read?
What looks in at you, in the sunset, red light flushing your cheeks as you eat? What sees you as you laugh at a joke, gesturing, teeth glinting free?
What looks in at you, in the night, as you tuck your blanket around you, as you lay back and think on the hours just gone and the hours to come? What sees you close your eyes, sees you silently sigh as you try to work yourself into sleep?
It always only watches.

The end is still the end That is also a beginning; Life had many parts, Many byways, Many goodbyes. May your hellos always outnumber the farewells; May your creating always outnumber your destroying; May your hope always outweigh your despair. This chapter is finished. Onward to the future!

Nose under tail, curl of white, A cotton fluff both sweet and light: asleep, your breaths your ribs just lift, your paws just twitch at dreaming's gift. My pup, you see in sleep's fine sand a shifting view of better land; the blanket carries you away from night's soft dark to light of day.

Take this heavy weight from me and cast it far into the sea let it wrap in kelp and bones and crush crabs' stolen homes beneath—
take this weight that drags my chest down to my knees, take it away and throw it in the gaping pit a sinkhole, bottomless and dark—
take this weight from me, please sever caring—need—and sadness, please destroy this ache of hunger— do not make me break again—
is my "humanity" still worth it all this pain, invisible suffering clear as water, filling, sloshing— do not— do not overflow—
Make It March - March 29
What I make will pass away like steam dissolving in the wind. But that does not make me feel sad; A better thing to make I'll find. If all things stayed, were set in stone, My hand would shake that held my pen. How could I make an error that Would live forever, now or then? But things that last are good or loved, And things that fade are still okay. They need not be undying prose Or poems that paint a perfect day. I'll write this now, and all I can. Keep making: this is my always-plan.
