𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 your 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 hairstyle(s)🌻 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 “𝘨𝘰-𝘵𝘰”? Little nugget...🙂 From my experience with various hairstyles and natural hair journeys. I’ve learnt how much hair is such a 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 element especially to women. Sometimes I want to agree that hair is just hair - I mean, it shouldn’t define a person. But now that I’m currently 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠, there’s a little shift. Previously, I’ve read a lot about European beauty standards and how we(Africans) use it as a yardstick for “beauty” “normal” “feminine”. Feels like we do forget our roots, our origin ... Nowadays, people look at you and assume a lot about you just from your hairstyle. 𝘑𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘣𝘺 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 Maybe hair isn’t 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 hair ? Maybe it’s 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 than hair Maybe it’s political ? Is Black Hair a movement ? Ultimately, I believe that a black woman is free to wear her hair in whatever style she wants. I root for 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦, the freedom where women are more than their looks. Freedom where women are not conditioned to bend just to fit into a box and suffocate their needs.
