#397 #MakeAGoodImpression I remember when I was in the Army and I had recently relocated to Georgia. On the way there, I was promoted to sergeant. That's a big step in the career of an enlisted soldier. It was an important promotion. It turned out that my new company was going to invite the battalion commander to pin my stripes. To promote me. Wow! The day came for my promotion and to make a long story short, I missed it. Incredible! Can you imagine the impression I made on everyone that attended the promotion ceremony? I arrived late that day and the First Sergeant brought me into his office with my new supervisor for what seemed like an eternity and I received a well-deserved verbal lashing. I was embarrassed. Needless to say, I wasn't on the First Sergeant's good side for a long time. Eventually, I was able to overcome the initial first impression after much work. I excelled at all I did and proved myself. However, it would have been easier if I had made a good first impression in the beginning. I learned my lesson (for the most part) and normally arrive at most events, especially important ones, ahead of time.
