On October of 2013, Chuck Pitts was stabbed and killed as he was leaving a party. Seven months later on May 11, 2014, his step brother Mahari Pullins was shot while walking home with a friend. It’s been 3 years since that fateful Mother’s day morning when Yara Williams received the phone call that the younger Pullins was murdered. She remembers how protective Mahari would be of his brothers and the love he shared with the rest of the family. Yara is now a member of Mother’s Against Gun Violence, an organization helping families of victims of gun violence through their crisis. The women also organize vigils on behalf of the families and advocate to end violence in the city of Syracuse. Yara mourns the loss of her sons daily and speaks out with the mothers in hopes that other parents don’t have to experience the pain she’s suffered. Mahari’s death remains unsolved. #photojournalism #portraits #makepictures #syracuse #mothersagainstgunviolence #gunviolence #stoptheviolence #unsolvedmurders #fallenangel
