No words or pictures can accurately express the trauma of a bushfire surrounding your home. The fear for your life as helplessness and entrapement consume your every fiber and thought is almost unbearable... . Living in the rainforest hinterland of Australia's 6th largest city on the country's highly populated east coast I firsthand experienced 2 bushfire evacuations within 2 months last year. And nothing in the past 10 years I've been resising here prepared me for this: . 🔥 waking up to evacuation messages in the middle of the night 🔥 feeling sheer pure panic as I smell choking amount of smoke outside 🔥 experiencing hyperventilation that brings me to my knees as I force myself to pack my valuables according to my evacuation plan, because all that surrounds me is darkness, smoke and uncertainty 🔥 joining the car convoy of our neighbours fleeing into town as there is only road down the mountain leading into town 🔥 the sound of our walls and windows shaking as water bombers endlessly fly over our house as if it was war 🔥 and so much more that I can't relive in my memories . Australia has been on fire for 6 months and there is no sign of stopping 📛 The destruction of our unique flora & fauna is inexpressable 😢 Our fire fighter heroes are dying at the fire fronts, and our Prime Minister literally turned his back on our people! . For me, the fires are over (for now). For so many others they are not 💔 .
