2020 did something to me. For what felt like the longest time, I lost interest in doing my own makeup, and was constantly trying to justify whether yoga pants were appropriate attire for whatever I was about to do. But after basically a year of nowhere to go and no one to see, I’m ready to dress this lady up and hit the proverbial town. I’m trying out new hairstyles and makeup looks, creating mood boards of all the outfits future, social me will wear. During one of very few visits to the outside world last year (that wasn’t to work a wedding or for groceries) I scooped up these two beauties from the recently released @makeupbymario line — a cruelty free and sustainably conscious brand now available at @sephora. Not all of the products are vegan, but they are transparent about their ingredients, and clearly list which products are vegan. I was particularly impressed by the eyeshadow palette. I’ve always struggled to find the perfect neutral mattes, and end up carrying way more palettes than I need, just for a few staple shadows. This palette changed all of that for me. It has the perfect range of neutrals for any skin tone, the pigments are impactful, and the texture is buttery and without much fallout. The Master Secret Glow also caught my eye — I love a good glow, and I’m always searching for the next best thing. What separates this product from other balm-like formulas is the texture. It’s sticky to the point where it won’t melt or slide off the skin, but not so sticky that it’s incompatible with layering or uncomfortable to wear. I had high expectations for this brand, and can confidently say that they were met. I’m excited for him, and I look forward to trying even more of his products. Have you tried @makeupbymario?
