How to make a One Sheet Gift Box
First origami box.
Realized after we’d decorated one each that we could open them to do the design.
Folded this one, then unfolded it and drew a continuous design, then refolded.
Kitty’s is fanciful!
The day after we visited MOAH, I realized I needed a box for part of my friend Treacy’s birthday gift, so I went online and found very helpful video instructions at Rob’s World.
Kitty and I sat down and went through the video and made charming little boxes out of printer paper!  Then we decorated them.  It wasn’t until we’d drawn on the finished boxes that we realized we could have unfolded them, making a continuous design easier. That’s how the daisy box came about.
Give it a try!  It’s fun to make things.

Hah! Take that, anxiety! I defeated you and just enrolled at my local folk high school for a language course (beginners Thai - I love Laos but you cannot learn Lao anywhere. So Thai is the next best thing) and a handicraft course (making folders, boxes and stuff) by the guy who taught the book binding course. Two new, scary things. That’s enough for today. Now I’ll sit on the couch and watch Gilmore Girls for the rest of the evening.
Box Practice, Take 1
I need to practice making boxes. Â That sounds silly, I know, but my original plan was to create a box to put my book in when it's finished.
About two weeks ago, I actually got to practice making a box. Â It's not the same size, or the exact same design as my plan, but it works.
I bought a Japanese screw punch (a book making tool) and when it came in the mail, I needed something to put it in. Â I realized this was the perfect opportunity to practice my box-making skills. Â So here's my first attempt! Â (Technically, it's my second attempt, but I threw out the first box.)
I learned something very quickly: the bottom piece of the box only needs to be a sixteenth of an inch to an eighth of an inch smaller than the top piece in order for the boxes to fit together snugly. Â Otherwise, the boxes will just separate when they are pulled apart!
i need to learn how to to do this!
