There's this bench at my school. Everyone in my year goes to sit there, every morning, from the second they arrive until the bell rings. And then the next day, they're sitting on the same old bloody bench again. 

I walk past it. Every day. I just cannot sit there. I can't handle the stupidity. I simply couldn't sit on that godforsaken bench with those people for one second without starting to hate everything around me. 

Then sometimes I think I'm taking it all too far. Not talking about the stuff girls my age are supposed to talk about, not thinking the way they think, not sitting on the bench I'm supposed to sit on, not going to the school party everyone goes to.

I could have so many friends if only I'd stop this and start to make more compromises. But I can't. I am not willing to give up who I am. I know how awful this sounds, but I really can't.

And it's not that I don't ever compromise. I make compromises every day. I probably wouldn't even have one friend if I didn't.

And whenever I try to be the person I am when I'm alone, all I get is irritated reactions and people, friends, mocking me. Or trying to change me. Because apparently, my room looks "too depressing." And my clothes, "Why won't you wear any normal, girly clothes?" and of course, Shari, "you should really go to this gig, I do not give a fuck you don't like this kind of music, you should because I love it" 

Perhaps that's what keeping me from compromising. Perhaps it's the fact I have to compromise in order to have friends that makes me hate adapting myself. The fact I can't be myself and have friends at the same time. And the more I have to do this, the more I hate it. 

I already know there will be a time I will be the only person I still like and the only person who still likes me. And that honestly terrifies me.
