Hope the semester is off to a great start! Making Visual Ethnography's first event of the semester will be a screening of Jean Rouch's documentary, "Chronicle of a Summer," next Friday (1/29) from 5pm - 6:30pm in MLB lecture room 2, followed by discussion and dinner. Chronique d'un été is a 1961 French documentary film shot during the summer of 1960 by sociologist Edgar Morin and anthropologist and filmmaker Jean Rouch, with the technical and aesthetic collaboration of Québécois director-cameraman Michel Brault. After the film, we'll be discussing how the documentary addresses questions of authenticity through the technique of "cinéma vérité" and what this means for our work as artists & ethnographers.
