My first make of 2019. I wear a thumb joint brace, and it not only looks clunky but it has velcro that catches on textiles/yarns, and ruins them. Later for that! I work at a fabric store, sew for fun and design knitting patterns for pay. Velcro is not welcome to interfere. So... I started a few months back making prototypes of a brace cover. This one is getting near to perfect. It's a remnant of a Cosplay fabric/faux leather. It's a knit on the back and rubberized on the front, and stretches in 4 directions. I used a leather needle and a smallish zigzag stitch. This is my 4th attempt and it fits great! Swipe to peek at the current version of my pattern, a few views of my brace (the joint at the base of my thumb has no more cartilage, so this keeps it stable... it was made by my Occupational Therapist). Also you can see the cover before I trimmed up the bell-shaped thumb. Oh: the finger sleeve keeps my arthritic finger joint warm and thus reduces pain. I figured that out myself. I almost look like I am stylish instead of mildly handicapped. I'll take it! #sewing #sewistsofinstagram #artasaneverydayattitude #colorjoyfullife #makingmakesmehappy #firstmakeoftheyear https://www.instagram.com/p/BsKUw5OFuwm/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ltlfjmxduuay
