P Hi! I've been seeing a bunch of your art from the spncreatorsdaily thing and I SWEAR I recognize your art style. Did you used to do a bunch of glee art back in ye olden days, under a different url? (and if so and if you're comfortable sharing, what was it? I'm pretty sure I must have been following you but I've deleted and remade since then and I can't for the life of me remember who you were) regardless, I love your art style and your blog

Hi! Yes I did do Glee art! I went through a few blog names lol I think the most common ones were homemadedarkmark and officialnewtgingrich -- I think there may have been another one but I’m not sure!

hey rien, I'd noticed this for a long time but seeing so many of your graphics at the same time this week (which has been GREAT btw) really drew my attention to the fact that you so often color the jackets (and especially cas's coat) of the characters in your graphics. I'm curious about what started you doing that- if you have a specific reason for it or if you just did it once and decided you liked it, or something else? <3

i’m so sorry it took me so long to answer this, and i hope you don’t mind me answering it publicly! (really so i can save this answer…)

there are a few reasons i do it a lot, i think:

when i’m doing a color or color-palette based prompt for a graphic challenge or something else, i often use it as a way to tie the graphic together visually and include the prompt color.

since spn is so dark, a lot of the time when i adjust the lighting of a cutout it really shows the pixelation and loss of quality in darker areas like clothing and hair. frequently i will color over clothing (and skin and hair) and use an overlay blend to hide this a bit.

it’s just fun! one of the earliest graphics i did this in is this one from back in november 2014 and i remember thinking it would just be a fun way to make the graphic pop a little bit more. i think after that point i just decided i liked it, like you suggested, and have kind of been doing it off and on subconsciously ever since!

(ps - i just looked at the comments for this graphic and someone was really unhappy about the idea of cas with a bright magenta coat hahaha)

hey, I'm a Mormon, (or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). in case you actually wanted to know what there was to "get" about the Mormon joke Cas made in that gif set you reblogged, Cas was mis-associating Mormons with people like the Amish, who do not use modern technology. however, this is a misrepresentation and comes from people not actually knowing anything about us, and it gets pretty tiresome. so it's actually kinda good that you didn't get the joke lol! <3

I was raised Mormon as well! I laughed because yes, it made no sense (being viewed by someone who actually knows about Mormonism and the culture.) I mean, I got what they were attempting - kind of, I didn’t realize about the Amish thing until you explained it -but wahwah the attempt fell super flat. I agree, it is tiresome.

re: your tags in this post: post/174025086911 I can 100% see why you felt that way, don't get me wrong, but for me it actually reinforced the idea that cas's version was singular to dean and then addressing the group, because when jack said it sam was the only one there and he was only talking to him at first, and then referring to dean and cas secondarily, kind of with the unspoken connotation that sam would tell them for him. idk that was just my instinctive take on it. <3

i can see how you could interpret it that way and that’s good that you’re able to view it in a positive light. c’: for me personally, i don’t. i think if i view it that way it takes away any romantic undertone for the deancas interaction because it’s from jack to sam and they’re speaking regarding familial love. yes it keeps the singularity of the first ily to sam, that’s true. i know some people ship sam and jack but i don’t so their interaction is strictly familial for me. i also don’t like when the writers recycle deancas lines because it takes away the impact, as well as generally taking away any romantic tone to it. i hope this makes sense? i’m half asleep, sorry.
