#13.23 #lucifer #parallels #successful acquisition of jack into family and role assigned in family (kid vs son) in order to harness power for idealized world #by patriarch of that family unit (altering the world is perceived as a right due to 'earning it' and also reflective of relationship with #perception of self in relation to their own father- dean 'removing evil' just like john who believed in their 'responsibility' as hunters t #hunt whatever they came across to rid the world of evil vs lucifer making a universe in a perceived self-image as reflective of performing #like his own father god)#deans perception of a 'safe world' implicates a similar assignment of highly moralized existence Good vs Evil just as lucifer will Allow #humans life IF they know their place (evil being subjective it is about control- whatever is unacceptable must be eradicated just like any #humans who would reject lucifer) having 'personhood' is based on the person creating the universe #both dean and lucifer present brief images into their own romanticized worlds - dean with alcohol and exoticized Hawaiian women #and his hierarchy (with outfits) and lucifer with grand creatures with mighty power and subservient crafted beings #and while dean says 'we earned it' it is implicated as a hierarchical 'we' with dean at the forefront taking charge of the unit

listen i love destiel as much as the next guy but it's so important to me that the "see, that's not who i am" actually has very very little to do with cas* and everything to do with the "lady, i'm tolstoy" "and i'm good with who i am" "toes in the sand" type of headspace that dean was finally building for himself

*i say it has very little to do with cas because despite cas saying all that nice stuff, he did sort of immediately brutally reaffirm dean's whole "to love me is to die because of me (before my eyes)" terror thing so idk how internalizable any of it was in the moment
