The great vocal virtuoso Yma Sumac singing her fabulous rendition of 'Malambo No1'.
A truly great example of an operatic range being incorporated into a contemporary genre. Here Sumac showcases a beautifully luscious lyric mezzo quality in the middle of the voice that effortlessly opens up into a crystal-clear upper register like a lyric coloratura soprano. She also shows all the necessary expressive qualities needed for mambo/exotica music with pin-point rapid staccato (all the way up to the high Eb6) and a growling chest register that highlights the distinct vocal colouring she could project in each register.
An assoluta in the non-operatic musical world.
Literally obsessed with this sing after seeing Jinkx Monsoon lip sync to it on Drag Race.
