@fatalelity / @malbloom said ⇾ footsteps rumble like a marching band drum. mallory’s running, seemingly looking offended. “mama! mama! why did you go to disneyland without ME?!” she huffs, she pouts, holding up a picture frame of her two moms CLEARLY living the fairytale.
MONTBLOOM FAM CHICCY NOODLE SOUP FOR THE SOUL.
at the sound of such booming footsteps — almost purposefully loud, if you ask her, lauren glances up... and she’s pretty damn sure she’s seen that exact look on her wife’s face more than once when she’s been really, really mad. shit.
so, color her relieved to find mallory’s complaint — while clearly important to her — is relatively trivial overall. still, lauren’s heart pounds as she tries to get her nerves to settle, mind still a step behind as it races to try and come up with something she might’ve done to enrage her kid even though the mystery’s already solved. setting her tablet to the side, a moment is taken to try and come up with the right words — god, addison’s almost always so much better at this.
“okay, you’re upset, i see that and i uh — i get it, i’d be pretty pissed in your shoes,” and not just cuz they’re so tiny, the urge to utter the ‘dad joke’ aloud is swallowed as fingers drum against her thigh in an attempt at self-regulation. she hadn’t done anything wrong, and it’s not like malmal’s fury lasts all that long, so why is she so nervous?
why does she feel so guilty?
“hey, look at me, baby. that was before you were even born. ‘n it’s not like we don’t plan on ever taking you, because we do! i promise! mommy and i have just been so busy and we wanted to wait ‘til you were bigger so you could enjoy it more, y’know?” a pause as she offers a half-smile, “why don’t we make plans for a family meeting? you, mommy, and me,” and before it’s too late she manages to remember an important addendum, “plus whichever of your stuffed animals you think should be kept in the loop, of course... and all of us together, we figure out a plan for when we’re all gonna go together, ‘kay?”
