Very much of it's time. This study of a new university and the then trendy radical study of sociology in the early seventies with it's sexually rampant anti hero Howard Kirk was a brilliant insight into a time and place. Not sure it's one we'd want to return to, but it's freedoms and intellectual curiosity had their appeals. Kirk awful of course, and the women, seemingly unable to resist his grim seductions, seem like figures well cosigned to the past. Well crafted campus comedy that led the way to many more by Lodge, Sharpe and on TV in A Very Peculiar Practice, looking at the same kind of environment a decade on.
