Short Malcolm Mcdowell fic ☕
-This is my first fanfic..thing? hopefully it's somewhat entertaining I tried emulating his charisma and overall personality if not I am so sorry! haha enjoy!-
It has been a long day, she couldn't help but reply it over and over what had been eating away at her, how it got to this point, her brain loved to fixate.
Once she made her way through the front door she felt a wave of nausea bubble up inside her as she bent down to take off her shoes, she waited a few seconds for it to pass and settle before bending back down and putting her shoes out of the way
Malcolm could hear her entire through the front door his head perked up from his newspaper like a meerkat as he looks in the direction of the sound and leans forward a bit on the couch curiously
"Is that you, Dear?"
He calls out to her, she usually announces herself when she comes home and she's been awfully quiet the past few days even for her standards
She creeps into the doorway with that pale look on her face, she crosses the room slowly towards him sheepishly and sits next to him
"Are you alright?..." he asks politely, He tries to peer at her face and study her expression
he doesn't ask what's wrong. He has a feeling he already knows she nods looking completely spent feeling too guilty to bring it all back up again as it's all she's been talking about for the past few days
He sets the newspaper down and turns to her his arm slips around her shoulders he lets out a quiet little sigh, more sympathetic than weary
"Long day?" He asks, more like a long week she thinks.
Feeling her nod, he smiles sadly.
"Mm. I thought as much, c'mere"
He embraces her fully in a hug one hand comes up to cradle the back of her head, his fingers brushing lazily through her hair, His other hand rubs slow circles between her shoulder blades as he rubs his cheek against hers subtly
The room is quiet now, bathed in the soft glow of the television’s flickering light. The hum of an old jazz tune plays from the TV a soundtrack, something from a old James Cagney film Malcolm was barely watching, too busy engrossed with his newspaper just before she came in. He sways gently with her still cradled in his arms like a parent with a child.
Without speaking, he reaches for the remote to the television and turns the volume down further until it's nearly silent, music only playing faintly now then he rests his cheek on top of her head and closes his eyes briefly
"You look pale, have you been eating enough?" He asks softly
"...no...probably not but...I haven't had much of an appetite recently" she mumbles
He responds softly
"My dear girl...
You don't have to explain it all to me again if you don't want to. I already know...
and I know what it does to you." He says softly
Eventually he tipped her chin up just enough to meet her eyes his brow narrows, and she gets full view of those big blue peepers of his, he gently caresses her face his thumb rubbing small circles over her cheek.
and he says sturnly but not unkindly,
"but I don't want you making yourself sick over this, these people they don't matter, and you must eat right if you want to function properly no wonder you look so depressed, we can't have that."
She opens her mouth ready to respond she explains she can't help fixating over it but he's having none of it
"No... you listen to me." He responds his voice deepens slightly
His thumb brushed lightly across her cheek. He begins to speak more softly
"Be good, be good for me, won't you?"
His voice was soft.
"Don't think so much, alright? It hurts me when you worry, making yourself sick for no real reason whatsoever, Seeing you tie yourself in knots over things you can't control..I don't like seeing you like that"
He gave her a gentle kiss to her forehead which she instinctively leans into she liked the parental dynamic they had sometimes it helped ground her in the worst of times having him there looking out for her comforting her
He speaks more softly and smirks
"I'd much rather see you smiling and laughing."
He looks down at her
"look at it this way, your spending all your energy on 'what ifs' when they haven't even happened, you're torturing yourself for no reason I mean what do you gain from it?"
he pulls away slightly looking at her he holds her shoulders firmly as he looks at her trying to figure out if she understands what he is saying or not
"please, stop.
If not for your own sake then for mine.. please? Be good and stop winding yourself up?"
She looks at him her expression softening and she nods.
"if I catch you spiralling again tonight..."
He pointed at her with a playful hint of authority.
"...you'll be sorry"
The stern look lasted only a second before it dissolved into a warm smile and a soft laugh and she smiles back.
"That's better" he nods
He pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead which she instinctively leans into she liked the parental dynamic they had sometimes it helped ground her in the worst of times having him there looking out for her comforting her he gives her a quick squeeze as he pats her back he smiles
she whispers a soft
"thank you" and he smiles giving her shoulder a comforting rub
He responds with a smirk and warmth in his voice as he pulls away and looks at her
"not at all.... We'll make some tea in a bit... or not! the couch is perfectly respectable medicine too you know!"
