When you start a voice from darkness you listen to Dr Ryder and you think ‘oh what a reliable, sweet scholar.’
And then the more you listen the more you realize that he is actually unhinged.

Space Prince Jaal and my Malcolm Ryder. Cutie pies.
Still can’t sleep have some Malcolm Ryder headcanons. Read Asher is projecting
He keeps a bottle of alcohol in his studio booth. He claims it’s to keep some Supernatural creatures away but really he takes a swig after his show if he has to deal with difficult people.
Failing to help people makes him really anxious. He tries to keep it to himself but Amelia can always tell it’s in the way he carry’s himself. Every time he fails to save someone he slouches just a little more
He is neurodivergent but not diagnosed. He thinks other people have it worse. His special interest is the supernatural.
He feels like he’ll never live up to his grandfather or even Amelia. He’s just the awkward one who can’t do anything right.
He likes Indie music
Very much a business first type of guy
He has auburn hair with streaks of gray in it. The gray is from stress and not really his age.
People forget he’s in his late thirties.
His eyes are green
I just found out A Voice From Darkness is ending and apparently it was announced on Twitter almost a year ago 😞😭 I'm honestly so disappointed. I'm extremely picky about my horror podcasts and I truly loved that. It filled a very satisfying void left by the unfinished-feeling finale of The Black Tapes. I truly hope it will come back sometime in the future.
On the plus side, I just discovered Strange Air, which has a very similar premise!
Shoutout to Dr. Malcolm Ryder, parapsychologist (click for better quality!)—
I am absolutely taken by this podcast and came across @vfdarkness ‘s post about Malcolm’s visual inspirations so of course I had to try him out (and throw a few of my own ideas in— I admit this is a very loose interpretation but whatever)
Im here to feed the fandom hello
This is just a doodle but i plan on a rendered drawing soon :]

Just started “A voice from Darkness” and i’m a couple episodes in and I love and hate that Malcolm is secretly unhinged? Like bestie, you CANNOT give people the horrors and expect trust afterwards when you fail to inform them of the risks, then get MAD when they are upset about the very real harm they go through that they weren’t prepared for.
Like when he was talking to our boy from Kansas and busted out the “from a logical standpoint” with the whole “spiders encased me in webs for hours and bled me repeatedly so they could eat some leeches and YOU DIDN’T TELL ME THAT WOULD HAPPEN.” And he responds with “um actually-“ I get it I do, i’m a logical person and yeah i’d probably let spiders do that if it meant wiping some spooky leeches of the face of the planet. But only if I knew that would happen???? You don’t just do that to people? Man had to sit alone in the dark unable to move, occasionally being refreshed for blood with zero knowledge that he was going to be saved and that’s so fucked up? And Malcolm had the nerve to be mad he was upset with him over it. Especially with the “for the greater good” vibes he was giving off in his speech. The man terrorized for months by leeches deserves the greater good as well!
Then the other guy who can see the numbers came in with the steel chair in the voicemails after he got the doom necklace and got right to the heart of the matter. I mean I would do ZERO trusting of the salesman but Malcolm straight up lied to him! Put him in incredible danger and told him to approach the one being he repeatedly tells everyone to NOT APPROACH under any circumstances. What, is his life not as special as Amanda’s? Like you CANNOT act like you have the moral high ground here when you are playing with these people just like the entities you claim to protect them from just because you’re on the good side. Even if everything you’re doing is to “help” you kinda suck at it so far.
Anyway I love it and I will be continuing.
