Let It Rock 'Venus' Bike Tire Top
Leather jacket from Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren's joint boutique Let It Rock
and before all of that. before all of that. even before all of that, i didn't completely hate him.
the pistols were all 19. they were kids. the adults around them not only failed them, they exploited and encouraged their behaviour for their own gain. and rotten was affected the worst by mclaren. the worst. as the frontman (again, leading the movement) he was an object (see: first paragraph of public image), and even more so he was an object for mclaren specifically, because what do you mean one of his friends spotted an eye-catching kid with shocking hair and shirt and attitude and mentioned it to him. do you. do you want to- i really am thinking of what that implies, beleive me. because he had no real friends, thought of nobody as good enough to be that close to him. malcolm making him (him, most of all him) model all the fucking kink-wear. having absolute power over him. 19. he was 19. it just leaves me with such a bad taste in my mouth. not even to fucking mention that malcolm was just casually buying him stuff that he really could not refuse or look over (he mentions being grateful at his foresight in resisting malcolm signing his own name for the house/flat (?) he bought him, fucking hell, mclaren pretty much owned him. 19.), not even to fucking mention all the power he held over him having made him famous (and saved him from a life of nothingness, dead-end kid as he was, and rotten was definitely more than smart enough to understand exactly the dynamics going on here) (and that is no place you can walk out of), i mean not even to fucking mention mclaren was taking advantage of his lonliness being the only decent person to talk to, being the only person willing to talk to him despite all his attempts at being shitty (and, let me just tell you, as someone whose lonliness has been taken advantage of by their sexual abuser, i cant just look past this can i?)
it's just. it's just. everything. it's just a lot.
even before PiL. even when i hated rotten for being the worst. i felt so bad for him too.
Vivienne Westwood & Malcolm McLaren:
'I Groaned with Pain' T-Shirt,
The quote actually originates from the 1954 erotic novel Helen and Desire by Alexander Trocchi. It became famous in the 1970s when Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren featured it on provocative t-shirts sold at their legendary King's Road boutique, SEX.
