Shadowhunters 2x18

There are many episodes that I loved but I think this was my favourite episode from SH so far... this was really high quality.

It wasn’t just because of the beautiful Malec moments, it was because of everything.

- Some episodes don’t balance that well action and emotion and I felt this one was strong on the action scenes and the emotional scenes and this is rare. I didn’t feel like either was overdone... it was in the right measure. This was due to the writing of the episode itself but also to the directing

- Amanda (the director) brought the best in the acting of those actors... we’ve seen a side of Maia, Alec and Magnus we haven’t seen yet. That seen with Alisha talking about her trauma was top notch acting. And Matt who usually portrays Alec so stoically, he really let everything out emotionally but not overdone. Harry was great as usual and even when he was quiet we could see everything that was going on inside him just by looking at his face and body language.

- Badass Luke... do I need to say more?

- The whole Max situation. Though I’d have liked the uncertainty of Max’s changes to have prolonged more through some episodes and some things to have played different even with him surviving, I thought that the set up was very good

- Will freaking Tudor... come on, is there a better person to play Sebastian/Jonathan? How he would transition from “worried Sebastian” to “cruel and smirking psychopath Jonathan” in a matter of seconds... come on, it takes talent!

- Badass savage Clary thinking fast and saving the day

- The lighting was different from the rest of the episodes... it was very good. That gold lighting on the Malec flashbacks 

- The detail of Magnus holding the Omamori killed me

- The bed scene was so beautiful... not overssexualizing, not fetichizing, natural, clumsy, happy... perfection. And the cat eyes scene with the detail of Magnus blinking slowly which in cat language is a sign of love

- The break up was done in such a tactful manner for the right reasons and the look on their faces... and Alec’s facial expression in the end it broke my heart... give an oscar to these two. For me it was without a doubt the best acting performance from Matt in the show.

- The transitions to the flashbacks... with the hands and stuff... the details... a very good creative decision

- The God damn soundtrack... perfection!

I can’t believe that 2x18 writer was the one who wrote that awful almost execution of Magnus!Valentine by Alec and without subsequent addressing of the issue.

Anyway, Amanda should direct more episodes. We could totally see that she had a different touch. Make her direct more emotional scenes and let her direct all Malec scenes so we can have well lit Malec kisses filmed in a natural way. Besides she can get the best of all the actors. I already feel that 3x03 will be one of my favourites just because she’ll be directing it.
