Ep 7 gave us more Malespero Lore and he’s really hilarious in his own right, huh. Like, he just spouts nonsense with a straight face on:
“I’ve forgotten” yeah sure Jan, that’s why you got flashbacks of your child form literally two seconds after you said that
“Humans dropped bombs on my face and it fucking hurt, so I had to get revenge on them somehow” is still his main motivation, but we went from “kill everyone” to “brainwash everyone”. That means letting NotJonathan fuse with Altair, while Malespero becomes his core. If they do succeed, our main characters will truly be fucked
What’s also interesting is that Malespero frames his past actions as self-defense:
and.....that’s it, isn’t it? “if everyone is dead or brainwashed, then no one will hurt me anymore!”. That’s what it boils down to
That’s something he has in common with Maris:
“I don’t want to pilot a Fafner and die for Wadatsumijima, so I’ll join this evil alien and help him brainwash humanity” is basically Maris’ motivation at this point. He’s not merely afraid “of the future”, he’s afraid of things he cannot control. Like humans’ minds
