I’ve been thinking lately how vulnerable we we all are to disruptive experiences, whether natural or man-made. It will happen to all of us in our lifetimes rest assured. An accident, a health problem, the death of a loved one. None of us can survive without each other. While losing our home to the fires has been a devastating, the amazing web of friends that have shown up for us has far eclipsed that loss and filled us with light, warmth and a re-emerging awareness that we are at our best when we help each other, we are at our optimum when our eyes are open and our hands are extended, to friends and strangers alike. This current environment wants us to forget that, wants us divided, wants us at odds with each other. It’s exploits our frustrations and makes us bitter. That doesn’t work for me. We are all someone’s child simply looking for connection, camaraderie and the hope of being useful and valued. It’s shockingly simple.
