Whumptober - "Stay with me"
"Hey, hey, I got you," Malichi said, tightening his grip on Tyr's torso. The shorter man slumped against him, his breath hitching in his throat as he pressed a hand against the bullet hole in his side. "The helicopter is here, do you think you can walk with me to it so we can get out of here?"
Tyr nodded with quick jerks of his head, his lips pinched tight as though he didn't trust himself not to cry out instead if he tried to open his mouth to say anything. Malichi carefully slung Tyr's arm across his shoulders, holding his wrist tightly in one hand and his other hand firmly under Tyr's armpit. Tyr groaned at the movement, but kept his free hand pressed tight to the wound.
"Ok, let's go man, let's get you out of here," Malichi said, telling himself it was encouragement to Tyr, but it was just as much to hype himself up. He knew the gunmen were gone, they weren't in further imminent danger, but he could tell Tyr was fading fast and he didn't have anything to even improvise first aid with outside of a torn up t-shirt.
He kicked the door open, the rickety old thing flying off rusted hinges and immediately coughed in the swirling dust outside. The small helicopter settled in the sandy area just outside the small cabin they had been hiding in and Kaipo jumped out of the pilot seat, leaving the engine running and the rotors slowly rotating above them. She gave the two of them a once over and grimaced, "looks like you guys have seen some shit today, huh?"
Malichi pressed his lips into a grim smile and raised his eyebrows at her, nervously glancing at Tyr. His head was tilted forward, his chin resting against his chest with his eyes closed. Malichi realized with horror that Tyr had gone limp in his arms without him even noticing, the hand on the wound hanging at his side leaving the blood to flow freely.
"Tyr!" He yelled over the roar of the engine, letting go of the injured man's wrist to hold up his head and tap gently on his cheek. "Come on man, stay with me!"
He had to hurry, there was no point in trying to rouse him in the middle of nowhere, so he scooped his arm under Tyr's legs and bolted for the chopper with him hugged close to his chest.
"Let's go!" He yelled at Kaipo, dropping Tyr in a pile on the floor of the helicopter long enough to scramble in and drag him into a better position. Kaipo slammed the side door behind them and hopped into the pilots seat, furiously tapping the white box fixed to the back of the co-pilots seat to remind Malichi where the first aid kit was as she slipped her headset over her ears.
Malichi pulled it down with fumbling hands, just about spilling the contents across the floor in his hurry. He managed to snap on a pair of gloves and then grabbed some gauze to press to the wound with one hand, reaching to feel for a pulse and breathing as he caught his own breath.
"Come on, Tyr. Stay with me."
