the moment, it goes so fast. it’s easy, it’s good. the catch of a sight you love, when you already know what to look for, that particular detail that is gonna make your heart skip one beat.

what was torturous was the night before.

picturing scenarios, going over sentences in his own head. unable to sleep, stressing over his outfit, over his hair, over where to place his hand.

the moment, no. the actual meeting-zayn-in-a-red-carpet, the couple of sentences they lasted. it was like living in a dream, and harry got it then, that he had been wasting his time worrying about it, because when it comes to zayn and him everything falls perfectly into place for a short while. the stars align.

the night before had been the echo of their last phone call, many months ago, that ended before a goodbye with a sharply cut line. but the moment - it’s flashes of skin on skin and that one time zayn looked at him and there wasn’t a single part of harry’s body that didn’t shake under his gaze.

zayn smiles, of course he does, and the night before, behind his closed eyelids, harry had pictured a careful and polite smile. however, what he gets is a bright, full of teeth and glimpse of tongue trapped behind them, smile. what he gets is crinkled nose and eyes.

zayn says his name, and the night before, face hidden in his pillow and heart beating strong, harry had heard it in the same tone from that phone call - ‘you don’t get it, do you? it’s not about you, harry. it’s not about us.’ - but it comes like honey, warm and sweet, like maybe zayn had missed it in his tongue as much as harry misses zayn’s in his.

they hold hands, and hug over their folded arms, and tap each other backs with flat hands as the flashes go crazy around them. harry can barely feel the silky touch of zayn’s suit because all there is for him is zayn’s body warmth, the classic scent of his cologne.

he lets a breath out, the one he had been holding since the night before. since many months ago. he lets it out and waits for zayn to do the same and when they part, there’s a look in zayn’s eyes that harry didn’t know it was the thing torturing him since they parted their ways.

because the night before he had pictured a goodbye look. and now all he sees, after all this time, is a see you later. and later is so close, later is the event, later is the after party. so the moment, it’s easy, it’s good.

what was torturous was waiting for it to come.
