Let me tell you about my day:
Today was Warped tour which was ~exciting~ but things didn't exactly go my way most of the day. Or ever.
Andrea, Malina, and Rel spent the night at my house last night so we could all get to Warped super early and on very little sleep. We were already a little behind when I realized, 20 minutes into driving down the freeway, that I had forgotten my ticket. Well, shit man. So we got off at the next exit and tried to find our way back with the GPS (which, luckily, my mom had convinced me to bring even though I didn't think we'd need it).
Wellll I wasn't paying too much attention because everything was happening so fast and it was a confusing as fuck intersection and I ended up turning where I...wasn't supposed to turn. And suddenly I was in the wrong lane going the wrong direction and we were all screaming (they were laughing, I was freaking the fuck out) but luckily it was like 7am on a Saturday so there was practically no one there, only one other car that (understandably) gave us the weirdest look. Also luckily for us the barrier between the right and left lane ended somewhat quickly and we could get over to the right side in one piece. I pulled over and they were still screaming with laughter and I just kept apologizing over and over because it was all my fault, me forgetting my ticket and also almost killing us.
We finally got the GPS situated and were on our way back home to get my ticket and then we turned around again and made it to Warped (on time with our original schedule, weirdly enough). We got there at 8:30am and were at the front-ish of the line. We had to wait until 11am to get inside. Also it was fucking hot as balls. Lucky us, it just so happened to be the hottest day of the year. What a fucking perfect day for Warped. ~sarcasm~ I haven't looked it up, but they were forecasting 90 degree heat yesterday and today when I was in the medic tent (I'll get into that in a bit) I overheard a medic say that it got up to 96 degrees. Us Washingtonians are not used to that kind of weather.
We got in without a problem, and me and Malina saw We the Kings first. I gotta say, that was probably one of my favorite bands all day. I don't really listen to them, though I do like what I hear when I do listen, and at first I felt out of place because everyone was really into it. But we were kind of middle front so we were IN the crowd and looking around, I loved seeing everyone else having such a good time and so I felt like I could get into it without being judged.
Then after We the Kings we saw Of Mice and Men, then we went on a hunt for the Yellowcard signing (also one of my favorite parts of the day, I just love Yellowcard omfg) and then we saw Tonight Alive.
Unfortunately this is when I started to get a headache. I'm sure a lot of things contributed to it; lack of sleep, heat, me being prone to migraines, and my uncanny ability to choose the worst time possible to get sick all being factors.
We didn't really have anyone else to see until All Time Low so we found some seats at the main stage and just chilled. I fell asleep but my headache wasn't any better when I woke up. A loud band (according to Malina) was up next before All Time Low so I skidattled out of there because I didn't want to make my headache worse. I headed for some stairs, one of the only places in the whole damn venue with shade, and sat to eat my lunch when this worker told everyone sitting there to move their tooshies because "stairs are for walking, not for sitting" so I had to find somewhere else.
They had a big field above the seating for the main stage so I sat there in the shade for a little bit, though none of the actual field was in shade, only the concrete around it. My headache got worse, teetering on migraine status, so I decided that it would be best to take a quick nap. The only problem was I had two unfortunate choices; nap in the comfortable grass in the blazing heat or the hard concrete in the shade. I chose the grass and I still don't know if that was the better choice or not. I got to take my like 20 minute nap but I didn't feel much better after. I decided I would watch All Time Low from there because I didn't think I could handle any seriously loud noises yet but I ran out of water so I had to migrate to get more. Eventually I was at the meeting place me and Malina had decided on but All Time Low's set ran past what we were expecting, into Yellowcard's set on the other side of the venue.
So I went there by myself (missing the first song or two which was kind of a bummer) and got myself to the middle-ish of the crowd and I had a really good time. Well, the Yellowcard part was great, but my headache was a full blown migraine by this point. But I tried to enjoy Yellowcard as much as possible. I started bawling in the middle of "Only One", though I'm not quite sure why. Maybe because I was finally seeing one of my favorite bands live, maybe a little because I was there by myself when what I really like about concerts is sharing it with friends, but probably mostly because I felt like my head was going to explode. It didn't help that the sunscreen on my face was starting to run because of all the sweat and it got in my eyes in the middle of me crying which made me like cry harder because it hurt so bad. I'm just glad I was wearing fairly large sunglasses.
Afterwards I found Malina and Andrea and I started crying again but this time it was for sure the brain pain and I decided that there was no way I'd be able to drive us home again so I called my mom and asked if her and my dad could pick us up after. I felt so bad, all these things were going wrong and they were all my fault. I felt like the biggest party pooper ever.
Since I had finally seen the one band I vowed I would not miss, I decided I should spend the rest of the day at the medic tent. Fortunately, the day was almost over. All the medics were super duper nice, they gave me a chair and two ice packs, one for my neck and one for my head, and a throw up bucket (which I did utilize several times). Every single person in that tent was ridiculously nice, not just the medics. This one girl was sitting with her friend (I don't know what was wrong with him but he eventually went to the hospital) but when she overheard me telling the medic that I had a migraine she said that she was prone to migraines too and she was so sympathetic and sweet. I was kind of puking and in a general horrible disposition, besides just being simply awkward, so I don't know if she could tell that I was grateful for her kindness but I really, really was.
A little after they left, this poor lost drunk girl came in and sat next to me. I didn't get the full story about her but she was so nice too. When she overheard me talking to a medic, after he walked away she held out her hand to me. I was confused at first but she said "hold my hand" and she held my hand for awhile. That was really sweet. Kind of strange, but really ridiculously kind. Her friends later picked her up.
The medic tent was right next to the stage that Modsun played on, which I'm thankful for since I had wanted to see his set. He seems to like weed a lot. Then my friends went to Pierce the Veil and when they came back it was time to go.
I don't remember a lot of what happened next, I was in a lot of pain and I was just kind of following Malina. I remember passing by a group of people handing out free stuff and one of them said "awh I hope you feel better soon" and I tried to smile at them. I hope it didn't come out to grimace-y. Then we were by my car and I kind of fell asleep there while Rel and Malina went to go find my parents. Then I woke up to my dad there handing me a bunch of ice packs and him asking me if I wanted general ibuprofen or a shot of immetrex (which is really the only thing that cures my migraines. Usually I take the pill, though). I knew the ibuprofen wouldn't really help so I took the shot (on my butt, by the way. Also he lied, it was much worse than a bee sting. And it made my face feel funny afterward). It actually worked pretty fast, which I am extremely thankful for.
So we fiiiinally got home at 11:30pm, had some hot dogs for dinner, and now my mom is dropping them all off at their respective houses.
Though it was a terrible fucking day for me, luck-wise, I actually had a lot of fun (when I wasn't almost killing my friends or dying of pain).
And that was my first Warped Tour experience.
