She was only 22, and had never picked up a blade before. She had grown up in a family of actors and performers, using weapons only when they suited a particular scene, edges dulled so as to not cause harm. She always complained when she was given roles that meant she would need to fight—she preferred the romantic interest, sitting high in towers and dreaming away, or the comedic role, making a fool of herself to gather a laugh.

When we chose her, she was furious. she complained and complained but was unable to tell her family or theatre troupe why she had to leave them. Why she had to join the traveling army to fight back against the invading monarchy. She spent hours honing her skills, gaining more strength to where she could finally wear heavy armor comfortably.

The sun beat in her eyes, reflecting back up off of the hundreds of suits of armor around her. She was not ready. She had to be.

She died without her families, a foreign sword in her hand and foreign memories in her head.
