Malva moschata - musk mallow
4 pieces photos by ©skondal 有時我不知道為什麼業餘攝影師的小品較易於觸動我的性靈和詩興 (我並不是說專業的不好 😅 😂) Sometimes I don't know why sketches by amateur photographers are more likely to touch my soul and poetry. (I'm not saying that professional ones are bad. lol 😆) 🙏 Thanks~*

I love its unique musky scent. White musk mallow (Malva moschata) flowers are usually pollinated by bees. Leaves and flowers of musk mallow are common additions to "wild" salads. The seeds are also edible.
Fairy's cheese", its other flowery language is "flavor". Anyone born with the blessing of musk mallow flowers will have a unique and charming temperament.

Malva moschata, Malvaceae
Looking at the pale pink blossoms of musk mallow it’s easy to see it is related to some other showier and commercially more important plants, like Hibiscus, cotton, and okra, however, together with the similar M. alcea and Alcea species, it is one of the largest flowered and hardiest species of the Malvaceae you will encounter in cooler temperate areas where the the tropical and sub-tropical ones don’t do too well.
Like many other species of Malva it is quite resourceful, although maybe not as much as M. sylvestris, ubiquitous in Italy and still for me to find here in Scotland. The flowers, seeds and young leaves are edible raw, they are mild in flavour and can replace lettuce in a salad, while the older ones are better cooked. All these parts are quite mucilaginous when fresh (simply put, they are viscid if poulticed or cooked, good as laxative and diuretic for this reason) and have anti-inflammatory properties, both applied externally and internally. When dried, flowers and leaves can also be used to make an herbal tea to soothe cough and sore throat.
It is a good plant for an informal wildlife-friendly garden, bees and bumblebees visit it mostly for its nectar (you can see bumblebees still collecting it from the open calyx when the flower has already closed up for the night in the late afternoon) while hoverflies use the pollen. It can grow quite tall and self-sows freely so consider where to place it, it can do well and looks fantastic in a container too.
