It tells of how when they first came they would hit vulnerable people along the coast. They were kidnapping all that they could left and right. There was no buying and selling of the people for a minute. They also had some resistance from some of the people and the book speaks on that. That's when the Portuguese decided that there had to be a better tactic, so they came under the guise of peace and trade before revealing their hand.
