Currently, I’m focusing on Query (Vega) when she’s in peak Mom Mode and… she is such a mom. In one piece, she’s sitting at the table with two kids, reading a series one (not present) has been obsessed with and rambling about so she can talk about it with him, making sure that kid 1 is doing her biology homework (while also keeping an eye that her injuries aren’t bothering her) and that kid 2 is doing his assigned reading of a book he cannot stand (and, internally, she agrees that reading it was horrible but hey. if she had to read it in school, so does he. not her fault if the education system is awful).
Have a little snippet, as a treat.
Tap, tap, tap. Dull, rhythmic slaps of eraser against paper.
Query snaps the fingers of her free hand, a worldless warning. Homework.
A quiet apology, habitual. “Yeah, a name.” The pencil scratches, short quick movements.
Look at how mothery, she is. Getting the kid to focus without looking up or saying anything.
Writing’s not been going great recently (a little better now though) so the goal is just to get whatever words down I can. I have been enjoying Query and the kids, though, recently.
