im watching American Gods. i am confusion..
I haven’t finished watching it. I’m still on S2E1, and i haven’t read the book either.
I thought I got the gist of of the central conflict, that being the gods of old not being worshipped and being irrelevant and now they’re trying to regain their power.
But here’s the thing - Kali is in this episode. And she is SO far from being an irrelevant god. The title sequence shows Ganesha’s head and now idk why it features in it (maybe cuz it looks exotic/interesting idkidk) because looking back there are many other deities that aren’t actively worshipped. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the narrative or maybe this is only America specific. But even so, Indian immigrants still believe in and worship Kali. There was another god whose appearance I didn’t recognise (and had to look up) - Ahura Mazda. That’s a Zoroastrian god and Parsis in India still actively pray to and worship him.
I’d love for someone to clear this up for me. maybe i just need to continue watching and I’ll understand? Also it’s so funny to me that they took the Mamaji route instead of Kali because in a lot of Indian languages Mama means mother’s brother (ji is a suffix that denotes respect, though not in all Indian languages) and I had to look it up to see wtf was actually going on w that name because visually she had Kali’s attributes and her accent was Indian too but the name made ZERO sense lmao
mama-ji in ‘house on the rock’
For character ask, Akaash and Mama ji
Ouuuuu, more interesting picks!
Akaash
1. Favourite thing about them?
His loyalty to Arnav!
2. Least favourite thing about them?
He can be such a vindictive hypocrite as well. All Raizadas can be, by marriage or otherwise -.- Like his refusal to forgive Payal and just going out of his way to be a dick to her, someone needed to smack him upside the head honestly and I volunteer as tribute.
3. Favourite line?
“Iss ghar mein sab ki apni soch hai, lekin faisla sirf Bhai karte hain. Bhai ne apne kandon par, iss ghar ka, iss parivar ka, bojh utha rakha hai. Aur agar Bhai ko kissi baat se aitraaz nahin hai toh kissi ko bhi nahin hoga. Maa bhi unke aage kuch nahin kehti.”
I think it really touches on the pedestal Aakash puts Arnav on and Arnav being the patriarch
4. brOTP?
Arnav and Aakash or Aakash and NK, or ALL THREE!!! They’re so cute.
5. OTP
Payash forever
6. nOTP
Aakash and Mami’s Miss India pick for him ahaha
7. Random headcanon?
When Aakash was a kid and you asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up, his answer would be that he wants to be just like Bhai
8. Unpopular opinion?
Aakash was a MAJOR dick to Payal post-Shyam’s reveal and a MEGA hypocrite considering he hid so many things from Payal.
9. A song you associate with them?
Papa Kehte Hain
10. Favourite photo of them?
I really don’t think I have a favourite photo of Aakash hahaha, like really
Mamaji (LOOOL)
1. Favourite thing about them?
He’s so mellow and easy going
2. Least favourite thing about them?
He kind of sort of sometimes treats Mamiji with a lot of indifference and sometimes outright cruelty tbh
3. Favourite line?
“Bannat hai saas, khud ko samjhat hai khaas” I FUCKING DIE EVERYTIME
4. brOTP?
…….. Nobody, honestly. Although, I would have liked to see more Mamaji and Arnav interactions.
5. OTP
Him and Mamiji
6. nOTP
Er…. him and whoever he was married to before Mamiji, I guess?
7. Random headcanon?
When the kids were little and Arnav and Anjali used to come and visit them during summer, Mamaji would gather them all around him before bed at night and tell them stories
8. Unpopular opinion?
I don’t know that Mamaji even got enough screen time to garner an unpopular opinion. But I don’t like that he didn’t stick up for Mamiji more, it could have really influenced her self-esteem and behaviour.
9. A song you associate with them?
That Vine song “I don’t know what the fuck just happened, but I don’t really care, Imma get the fuck up out of here, fuck this shit i’m out”
ALSO I saw this HILARIOUS crack VM of emotional clips of Mamaji to the song ‘behti hawa sa tha woh’ from 3 idiots and now i can’t hear that song without thinking of him
Kahaan gaya usse dhoondo lmfAO
10. Favourite photo of them?
Again - I don’t think I’m invested enough in Mamaji to choose a favourite photo LOL
Thank you for asking!
Mamaji is fresh out of fucks
