🕯🔮For those of you who love vintage collectibles and oddities, I have a very special offering to share with you tonight. It’s one of the rarest and most enchanting pieces of art in my collection, it’s called a Mammy Candle and she ain’t mess’n around! This candle is believed to have been made in the 1930s during the Jim Crow ara. The Mammy image serves the political, social and economic interests of mainstream white America. During slavery, the Mammy caricature was posited as proof that blacks, in this case women, were content, even happy as slaves. Well, what a crock of bullshite that is, right?! Well, unfortunately these caricatures were everywhere for a time and we still see them in our culture today. Used as household decorations, these candles were also used in voodoo ceremonies, no doubt used as protection against the enslaving white man. There is so much history behind the Mammy candle and I encourage you to learn more about it as it’s very eye opening as well as devastating to say the very least.✨The energy of this candle is very peaceful and has a very strong protective feel about it. It’s in extremely good shape considering how old it is. I would love to keep her but if you’re interested in purchasing please send me a message. I am asking $90.✨And please let me know if you’d like me to continue sharing oddities from my collection, I have some really crazy items! Please no rude or ignorant comments in this post. You will be blocked. I do not tolerate stupid.🔮🕯 #mammy #mammyart #rascistart #jimcrow #jimcrowmuseum #slavery #voodoo #voodoocandles #magic #art #antique #collection #collectibles #rare #oddities #odditiesandcuriosities #thevelvetlotus https://www.instagram.com/p/B72gF6pBIht/?igshid=15a2b6wowv238
