One Third Of Global Enterprises Have Hired An Employee They've Never Met In Person Due To Skills Shortage
Expereo's research reveals that global enterprises face challenges in hiring high-value knowledge workers, impacting their ambitions for global growth. About one-third of global CIOs admit to hiring individuals they've never met in person due to these hiring struggles. Key obstacles to global growth include skills and resource retention (35%), challenging security environments (35%), and complex physical and geopolitical infrastructure (33%). For 40% of CIOs, recruiting individuals with the right blend of business and technology skills is particularly challenging. Furthermore, governance and regulatory compliance competencies are challenging for 31% of CIOs, while recruiting for growth technologies like cybersecurity (49%), AI/ML (41%), and data analytics (38%) presents difficulties.
Hybrid and remote work policies have helped 43% of global CIOs tap into a broader geographical talent pool, with 38% having teams based in different countries and markets. Flexible working is crucial for retaining and recruiting skilled employees, according to 48% of CIOs. The research indicates that almost three-quarters (72%) of businesses now follow a three-days-or-less office workweek. Nonetheless, 32% of respondents foresee an increase in the number of days people work from the office, citing concerns about employee productivity while working from home. Connectivity challenges, including ensuring application performance across multiple locations (41%) and offering 24/7 support across different time zones (37%), put pressure on CIOs' teams.
