mikoto is typically blank most of the time. there’s not really a word i can use to describe his emotional state, because for the most part, he’s so detached & void in every way that it’s doubtful he’s capable of expressing his feelings. as he appears every other day, he’s simply on a whole different playing field from the rest of his clan— he’s there in body, but he’s not necessarily with them all in spirit.

i can’t say he’s always happy— because obviously, he’s not, being in the toughest position anyone can be in ( aka. as a king, bound to always be in the path of danger ); i can’t say he’s always sad or fearful— he acknowledges what his future will most likely bring him & accepts it as it is; & i can’t say he’s angry about anything, either. simply put, he’s just devoid of emotions altogether. perhaps it’s simply the way of a king ? it’s impossible to explain; he doesn’t know himself about feelings.

i’m honestly going to stick with the apparent, obvious answer, that mikoto doesn’t laugh in general. if he would, it would only be in a situation where he feels as if he’s in a darkly ironic predicament. & even then, if he laughs at the misfortune of it, his laugh would be half-hearted. he’s not someone with a twisted mind, or a masochist to believe, ' ahah, yes, i'm facing my final minutes of life— how hilarious ! ', therefor laughing fully from the soul; instead, as we’ve previously witnessed with the ashinaka island incident, mikoto has chuckled & laughed weakly about the irony of his own downfall ( being that munakata, a fellow king & someone he considers to be more or less of a friend despite their differences, was the one who would have to ultimately execute him ).

he wouldn’t laugh at anything else, i’m thinking. jokes, seeing others make silly mistakes, being subjected to that ’ contagious laughter ’ that some people seem to have— none of it. he’s a very stone-faced person, & very unlikely to let a laugh slip out in any situation. since high school, he’s been made out to seem the same as the present, in terms of his ' detached ' & ' emotionless ' persona.

& so, i’ll leave it at that: attempting to make mikoto suoh laugh is like trying to make it snow in the middle of summer. it’s extremely unlikely that it will ever happen & that he will intend to laugh whole-heartedly, based on his personality & reluctance to even crack a smile most occasions.
