While this movie is a little less steamy and a lot more cheesy join us for the failed prequel to everyones favorite 90s movies. With more dropped plot points then memorable actors, this movie was meant to be reviewed.
Roger Kumble, creator of the original Cruel Intentions (1999), the attempted TV series Manchester Prep (2000) [pilot & 2 episodes produced for FOX - UNAIRED], the re-edit of said series, released as straight to DVD “prequel” Cruel Intentions 2 (2000) & the upcoming new TV sequel Cruel Intentions (2016) [pilot completed for NBC - awaiting pickup confirmation] replied to me on Twitter!! I wanted to ensure that now the king has resumed the throne of this franchise after the lackluster, straight to DVD Cruel Intentions 3 (2003) [no involvement from Kumble & lacking other important franchise staples], that we not only have our original writer/director/creator back & knowing original characters Kathryn Mertueil (right down to Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her role) & Annette Hargrove’s stories are continuing, 1 more important factor remained. Edward Shearmur conducted an outstanding & memorable music score for the original film, which was subsequently used in both the episode & DVD releases of MP/CI2 (differently) & even the CI parody scenes in Not Another Teen Movie (2000), it was also lacking in CI3. Very pleased to not only hear back from Mr. Kumble, when honestly I wasn’t expecting to, Shearmur’s score is also returning. The Cruel Intentions Franchise Lives!! And is back in the right hands!
