Mandarin Ducks, closely related to the North American Wood Ducks, are native to China and Japan. The male sports the bright and colorful plumage, while the female is more muted. When the male molts, after the mating season, the only difference in appearance from the female is the bright red beak! As Audubon.org put it, “he’s going to trade in his technicolor dreamcoat for, basically, khakis.” Despite the closeness of the relationship with the wood duck, they are the only two in the genus, no hybrids have ever been recorded. This is because the mandarin has a chromosome aberrance that makes it impossible for it to produce hybrids with other ducks. 2014 Hawaiian Adventure Tour with @gocollette ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 👉🏻 𝕥𝕒𝕘 𝕒 𝕗𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕟𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕝𝕚𝕜𝕖𝕤 𝕗𝕦𝕟 𝕗𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕤 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 👉🏻 𝔽𝕠𝕝𝕝𝕠𝕨 @julieannb_travelin_photos 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕕𝕒𝕚𝕝𝕪 𝕗𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕤 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕙𝕠𝕥𝕠𝕤 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🦦 𝕍𝕠𝕥𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕞𝕪 𝕤𝕖𝕒 𝕠𝕥𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝕡𝕙𝕠𝕥𝕠 𝕓𝕪 𝕔𝕝𝕚𝕔𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕠𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕜 𝕚𝕟 𝕞𝕪 𝕓𝕚𝕠 - 𝕊𝕖𝕖 𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕜 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 🦦 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #mandarinducks #mandarinduckspair #colorfulducks #featheredfriends #wewilltravelagain #travelfromhome #virtualtravel #creativecontentbuilders #travelphotographersociety #travelholic #travelphotographer #travelshots #travelcaptures #travelpassion #traveltherenext #thetraveltribe #worldofwanderlust #travelhappy #travelgirlscollective #travelbloggervibes #travelphotoblog #adventureenthusiasts #takemoreadventures #wandermore #travelgirlshub #travelette #travelphotooftheday #travelgrammer #femalephotographersnetwork #julieannbloniaszphotography (at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFfu1WyhI7S/?igshid=vvngbshhm8dp
