I woke up briefly last night, scrolled through the news and fell asleep again in shock. The day then brought very gloomy weather. But there were a few wonderful splashes of color in all the gray: two Mandarin Ducks crossed my path.

The mandarin duck is originally native in East Asia. Kept in captivity as an ornamental bird, escaped ducks have mated over time and a free population has established itself in Europe.
