Energy not found. . Burnout is waiting to consume me like the black edges of a paper on fire. . I can tell because the things that usually bring me joy make me feel exhausted, and all I want to do is sleep. There are so many huge things I want to do, but I feel paralyzed. . When I'm feeling the heat of my to-do list, the last thing I feel justified in doing is taking a nap... even though sometimes that's the most productive and important thing I could do for myself. . I'm gonna go ahead and let this burnout wash over me, but there were a few things I had to get out of the way first so I could rest in good conscience. In case you're struggling today too, here's my 3 steps: . 1. Start a timer for 20 minutes. Put a dent in the things that feel like they take forever. Put away clothes, do the dishes, sweep the floor. Boom. You can do anything for 20 minutes. . 2. Make a new list (on a new piece of paper, not tacked onto your huge to-do list) of a few tasks that absolutely cannot wait, or anything that needs done that takes less than 2 minutes. Do them. Check them off. . 3. This step is the very most important. Forgive yourself for not doing everything. Forgive yourself for not finishing your novel, for not steamcleaning the carpet, for eating peanut butter toast for dinner, for not saving the world. .
